Comprehensive Distance Learning for the mind + spirit
(online until we are cleared to return to face-to-face)
SJS has committed to Distanced Learning for the entire 2020-21 school year and offers families a safe and supportive environment and engaging curriculum that addresses the academic and emotional needs of young learners where teachers are doing the teaching, so parents don’t have to.
Small Class Size - students are grouped into homerooms of various ages with an average teacher/student ratio of 1:11
Online Classes with Purpose – classes meet twice a week online for each subject and students are tasked with assignments before each meeting so real-time learning sessions become an opportunity for students to engage with students and students to engage with teachers in a dynamic learning environment rather than simply listening to teachers talk
Teacher Accessibility – teachers hold an additional five hours of office hours a week to build strong relationships. Students often drop in just to interact with friends and teachers outside of academic requirements
Social Emotional Learning – based on the Friendzy Curriculum, the SJS learning model builds on the Five Core CASEL Competencies:
The goal is for students to recognize who they are, what their strengths are, how they feed off other people, how other people impact them and how you use these things to build healthy and rewarding relationships in a community. SJS students learn to positively engage with others even when they disagree.
SJS offers a unique learning environment in challenging times.
SJS is a FREE Public Charter School serving students from grades 4th through 12th.
Our Mission Statement:
Sister School Visit
Toyama Kokusai - Toyama University of International Studies High School is our new sister-school! 53 of their students and 19 of our students hung out together on Saturday. We played American games, ate typical American junk food, compared our countries and educations, and swapped TONS of stories. We had a blast!
